Laphroaig Quarter Cask whisky review
Description:
The Laphroaig Distillery is known for its beautiful peaty single malt whisky.
The Quarter Cask version is slightly different, it takes its inspiration from the small casks often used for whisky in the 19th century.
As the industry grew they fell into disuse as larger and more cost effective barrels became the norm both for maturation and transportation.
But as the whisky takes flavour from its container the Laphroaig distillery decided to re-create the quarter sized barrels which give 60% more contact with the wood.
The Quarter Cask version is also non chill filtered (barrier filtered only) in keeping with the old tradition.
The result is a stronger more full flavour than non QC, a beautiful woody peaty combination that really excites your taste buds.
Nose: Peat, Smoke, Wood, hints of Orange.
Palate: Smoke, Peat, Cinnamon.
